The 88th Academy Awards Edition

Hello… It’s me.

Long time, no blog post! Sorry about that. Big news though; I moved to Sydney! I’ve officially been in the state’s capital for ten days and am loving it sick. The traffic? Not so much.

I thought it was appropriate to make my return to my blogging about one of my favourite yearly events… The Academy Awards. This year marks the 88th ceremony and whilst it was hard to narrow it down to only five, I have included my top five best dressed celebs, below.

Alicia Oscars

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton.
Winner: Actress in a Supporting Role: The Danish Girl.

Cate Oscars

Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive.
Nominee: Actress in a Supporting Role: Carol.

88th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Julianne Moore in Chanel. Julianne kills it every single time she makes an appearance on the red carpet.

Margot Oscars

Margot Robbie in Tom Ford. I appreciate that she has dressed in theme and actually looks like an Oscar.

Rachel Oscars

Rachel McAdams in August Getty Atelier.
Nominee: Actress in a Supporting Role: Spotlight.

Who do you think deserves best dressed celebrity?

Next time, I promise not to leave it so long between blog posts.

The 87th Academy Awards Edition

Ah, The Oscars… Definitely my favourite awards ceremony of the season. Last night, the 87th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles to honour the best in the film making business. Let’s be honest here though, whilst the nominees and winners deserve all their success, I am here to talk about the fashion. My best dressed goes to Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford; classic, elegant and simple. I love it. I am dying to see Wild, for which she was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, but I want to read the book first (another book to add to the ‘to read’ list). My other favourites include Julianne Moore in Chanel, Sienna Miller in Oscar de la Renta and Naomi Watts in Armani Prive. “Expect the Unexpected”

Last Friday, New York City was transported to a place of audacious femininity and adventure. This of course was the kate spade new york 2015 Fall Collection, where pinks, plaids and woodland creatures collided to create a whimsical fairytale. Usually, I would reconsider wearing anything that resembles a fox, but somehow, Deborah Lloyd, the company’s creative director was able to flawlessly combine kate spade new york’s timeless style with the unexpected, resulting in a well-deserved showstopper. The presentation was set against a backdrop of illustrations created by Mike McConnell.

“as the temperatures drop, our craving for indulgence rises. we head inside, into the city’s cozy hotel bars and hidden lounges where we hatch wild schemes, embellish small tales, share secrets and feed our senses. the intimate conversations we enter into have sumptuous layers—of sly wit, flirtatious entendres and out of the ordinary ideas—that slowly unravel as we warm up to our environment and the delightful people around us, both known and unknown.

and so the collection’s relaxed layers of rich woolen plaids, flannels and quilting mix with pretty hues and elaborately adorned fabrics. iconic silhouettes are nipped and tucked to befit our modern heroine. woodland fox reds and accents of pink—both softly spoken and as shocking punctuation—mix with chocolatey browns, black and cream.

where audacious femininity meets a sense of adventure is where our fall begins.

expect the unexpected.”

My personal favourites from the collection include the hot pink coat, the plaid shirt dress with the pussy bow and the flannel midi skirt.

Even though I watch through Instagram snaps, 15,000 kilometres away, I love how every year the kate spade new york presentation isn’t a traditional fashion show. One day, I might even be able to go! #keepdreaming

The Grammy Awards Edition

With the Awards Season in full swing, I thought I would do a wrap up of my favourite outfits from the 57th Grammy Awards that were held today (Sunday in the USA) at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. Yes, I may not be up to date on the latest tunes (I’m still listening to Adele’s 21), but who needs music when you have fashion?

My top three:

Taylor Swift in Elie Saab. Love it. She can do no wrong.

Gwen Stefani in Atelier Versace. I’m quite partial to a jumpsuit, which Gwen nails in this black number. I am bananas for it (ha, geddit?)!

Rihanna in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture. I know it’s controversial, especially with the memes that have been created and the fact that she resembles a Barbie, but I kinda love it.

Who were your top 3 dressed at the 2015 Grammy Awards? Did you love or hate Rihanna’s loofah-inspired dress?

Speaking of music, I leave you with Lennon and Maisy’s latest cover of Boom Clap by Charlie XCX (originally in The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack). I last wrote about them here when Prudence and I were in a Nashville coma. We are since out of that coma and into a new one (McLeod’s Daughters), but I am still super impressed by the talented duo. Considering this is a fashion related post, I must mention Maisy’s outfit. 10/10 for me. I mean, a black and white gingham skirt with red boots is perfection. My eight year old self is incredibly jealous.

When Prudence and I were younger we would go to our friends’ house and whilst the mothers chatted over tea and cake, Prudence, myself and the other girls our age would sneakily watch episodes of Sex and the City. This was when it was on VHS and whilst we had no idea of what was happening, we were all mesmerised by the clothes, the shoes and New York City. A few years later, mum requested the box set for Christmas and we delightfully got it for her, knowing our days of SATC on VHS were over. We became addicted (just like any other show we watch), and whilst Prudence was (and still is) an Aidan and Burger fan, I was always Team Big. After mysteriously going missing for a few years (we think mum was giving us a hint), the whole six seasons are back in our hot little hands and we have rejoiced in watching the episodes again. It’s a testament to the show’s costume designer, Patricia Fields, that you can watch any of the 94 episodes (aired from 1998-2004) in 2014 and still love and appreciate the fashion. Carrie Bradshaw is an icon for style and so was her wardrobe. Let’s just take a trip down memory lane and have a look at her three closets from the show and movies.

When I saw on Pinterest that her Greenwich Village townhouse was on the market, I was intrigued to find out whether her personal wardrobe is as fabulous as her Carrie Bradshaw wardrobe? Considering she has two closets in her $22 million dollar home, I would definitely say it is every bit as fabulous (and so is the rest of the house).

Twirling in Pink

I was going through some of my Pinterest boards with mum this afternoon and I came to realise I have quite the obsession with hot pink skirts. The following images were pinned altogether so I must’ve gone on a pink skirt rampage. I am also loving the midi-skirt trend at the moment! I don’t think I could ever pull the style off, but a gal can dream, right?

Hello

Modern Ballerina

Modern Ballerina

Just popping into say hello. I am currently in the library trying to finish off a couple of assignments – I have my earphones in, am listening to a bit of Adele, and eating Coles chocolate-chip cookies (a serious #gamechanger, so yummy!). I have been procrastinating on Pinterest: daydreaming about future apartments, houses, clothes, outfits, meals and pets. Are you on Pinterest? Follow me or have a look at my pins and boards. I’m bonjourolive on there! Isn’t this Modern Ballerina just darling?
