The first sleep and first meal after a flight are always the best. We just woke up from twelve hours of bliss after being up since 2am Australian time and spending our first full day in Hawaii trying not to fall asleep whenever we stopped. Guys, I am in love. Yes, with Zac (obviously), but now, with Hawaii. This place is amazing.
We arrived in Honolulu on Wednesday at 7am local time (3am Thursday in Sydney) and after grabbing a taxi, we arrived at our hotel, the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. Check-in wasn’t until 3pm, so we had to wait all day to be let in. After walking for half an hour trying (unsuccessfully) to find a Starbucks, we eventually just came back to the hotel and had breakfast at the restaurant here. Omelettes and coffee never tasted so good after hours of not eating (I don’t eat on flights).
But really, all I wanted to do was find the shops (let’s be honest, people). Heather, the concierge at the Outrigger, was so helpful and friendly, that we were on a pink line trolley to Ala Moana shopping centre within fifteen minutes. Yippee. The next hour was spent roaming the shops, drinking Starbucks and wishing we had a credit card.
Did you really think it wouldn’t be my first purchase?
We finally got back to the hotel, checked-in, put our swimmers on and went to the beach. It was absolute heaven! The perfect temperature, clear waters and awesome views of the surrounding hotels and Diamond Head.
The view from our balcony.
A quick grocery shop to stock up on cheese & crackers, wine, yoghurts and baby carrots (#gamechanger), dinner at Duke’s, before we unpacked and were in bed, ready to watch the latest episode of Suits!
Dinner at Duke’s. The yummiest waffle fries!
I am in love with this place. It’s the perfect mix of culture, relaxation and adventure. Oh, and shopping!
